Sandy Farquharson MBE: In memoriam

All of us at ACOSVO are shocked and saddened by the news that our previous Treasurer, Fellow, and long-time friend of the organisation, Sandy Farquharson MBE has passed away.

Sandy had retired from his CEO position with the Marie Trust in 2018 but by that time had spent over 40 years committed to the sector in various ways through his activities as a Rotarian and volunteering his time across a range of causes including mental health, disability, children and young people, foodbanks and so much more. In the 2019 New Years Honours List he was recognised for his dedication and awarded an MBE for services to homeless, disabled and socially excluded people.

Until January of this year Sandy was Vice-Chair/Director of GCVS (Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector) and remained Vice Chair of William Simpsons, a long-established residential home and respite centre for those people with mental health issues caused by alcohol addiction up until his death.

While Sandy undoubtedly achieved great things with his life, he will be remembered by us as a kind, thoughtful, generous man and a great ambassador for ACOSVO. He will be sorely missed by all.
