Sandy Farquharson MBE

Sandy has recently retired (November 2018) from his post as the CEO/Director of the Marie Trust in Glasgow having been appointed in 2008. Before that he had a long career in business namely with Nationwide Building Society, eventually becoming Scottish Manager. He has been involved in the voluntary sector for over 40 years mainly as a volunteer and through his activities as a Rotarian. He is also currently Vice Chair/Director of William Simpsons a long-established residential home and respite centre for those people with mental health issues caused by alcohol addiction and Vice-Chair/Director of GCVS (Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector). He was a Director/Treasurer (Voluntary Position) of Plus in Stirling, a children and young people’s charity providing social activities for both mentally and disabled children and young adults. He was also a member of the Board of Start-Up Stirling a voluntary foodbank charity. He was also for many years a Board Member/ Treasurer of ACOSVO (Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations).

In the 2019 New Years Honours List he was awarded an MBE for services to homeless, disabled and socially excluded people.
