Dealing with Conflict: How to understand, learn from, manage and resolve workplace conflicts
Cost £60 for members and £80 for non members
Many of us are uncomfortable with conflict and go to great lengths to avoid differences that may lead to disagreements. We will help you work with the inevitable and unavoidable conflict that is part of organisational life.
“Do not think of knocking out another person's brains because he differs in opinion from you. It would be as rational to knock yourself on the head because you differ from yourself ten years ago.”
? Horace Mann
Event description:
This one-day event is designed to help Senior Managers learn more about how to deal with conflict in the workplace. Through a mix of presentation of theory and practical discussions, participants will have an opportunity to explore their own tolerances and reactions to conflict and practice skills and techniques that diffuse tense situations and convert difficult conversations into constructive exchanges. Delegates will learn how to diagnose the root cause of conflict and to mediate or facilitate others’ conflicts as well as manage their own reactions in tense situations.
Who should attend:
Chief Officers and Senior Managers responsible for other people’s performance, building and managing teams and workplace productivity
Approach to learning:
This event will be highly interactive to allow for presentation of information and materials along with case study and real life examples, role plays, dialog and debate, and skills practice. Individual learning will be a function of group interaction around difficult situations and participants’ own experience with conflict, so group size will be limited to ensure an action learning approach based on individuals’ actual experience.
About the facilitator:
Dr Kris Von Wald is an experienced group facilitator, qualified in community group conferencing and peacemaking circles. She has direct experience in various forms of conflict resolution, including peer mediation and restorative justice. She uses a systems approach to understanding conflict and change management, recognising that individuals can learn and gain value from situations where opposing ideas and opinions run into each other.
