Description

Strategic Thinking, Planning, Action and Management: Working to ‘Win’

Clear strategy can make a big difference during challenging times, and a strategic framework creates ‘room to move’ when quick responses in dynamic environments are what is needed.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the broad concepts and ideas, and then apply them to their own organisations. This will include identifying what they might need to change in order to implement and deliver strategic aims.  The event will also discuss the following questions.

  • Why is there such an emphasis on strategy, particularly ‘strategic’ planning?
  • What do we know about thinking strategically and strategic management?
  • How do the concepts of strategic planning, action and management translate in the third sector?
  • How do they fit together within a framework that helps organisations deliver their mission and have positive impact for their beneficiaries?

Workshop Benefits

This workshop will help you understand the basics of ‘strategy’ and what contributes to the development of a strategic framework.  You will work together with other third sector leaders to discuss how to engage in a process of developing, implementing and monitoring your organisation’s strategy.    Working with your own organisation’s goals and objectives, you will devise a strategy map that will guide your planning process and identify areas for further development.  This workshop will be highly experiential and participants will benefit from working with others to create ‘real life’ planning frameworks.

Who is the Workshop For?

This is a workshop for those who work at senior levels in third sector organisations.  This includes the Chief Officer and others on the team who contribute to the planning process.  This may include senior staff or the Chair of the Board.  On the day, all participants will be part of an action learning community and create a learning network with the opportunity to remain connected as plans develop beyond the workshop day.

Workshop Outline and Agenda

  • Definition of ‘Strategy’
  • Translating strategy into development
  • Moving between strategic planning and strategic action: learning from implementing
  • Monitoring performance

Workshop content will move between the general and specific throughout the day.  Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the broad concepts and ideas, and then apply them to their own organisations. This will include identifying what needs to change in organisational cultures in order to implement and deliver strategic aims.

Morning session will focus on what goes into strategy development and different planning models.

Afternoon session will focus on identifying what will work in participants’ specific situations, including trouble-shooting and monitoring progress.
